Stitch, Stamp & String for 6th-8th Grade
- Cost: $365
- Tuesdays 2:45-4:15
- Think of this class as teaching practical life and creative skills through an artistic application.
- Projects: Students will learn basic and decorative stitches, create handmade buttons and embellishments. We will also learn to tie some basic knots and apply them through macramé projects. Weaving is also on the list. We will do some mono-printing on fabric using stamps to create one of a kind fabric prints. A final list of projects is still being determined. Have some really wonderful projects in hand and now can't wait to get started in the fall!
- Project consideration will also be driven by student skill level and interests.
- Skill Development:
- Knots can make art projects. Additionally, the importance of being able to tie a secure knot can be a matter of safety.
- Knots teach puzzle-solving skills, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. No matter where the future leads them, all these skills will be important.
- Knotting and stitching develop eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. Developing those elements can even help students have better handwriting.
- This class will allow students to use their brains in new ways. Projects invite creative choices and imagination.
- When we learn to master new skills, we strengthen our confidence in our ability to take on other new challenges. Communication and listening skills, following instructions and patience to create a quality project are other areas of development that this class will help further.
- Learning how to sew on a missing button, mend cloth, connect two ropes securely into one longer rope or create gifts will help students have a “can do” attitude in meeting the challenges of everyday life.
