Stitch, Stamp and String is suitable for 3rd-5th grade boys and girls.
  • Cost: $345
  • Wednesdays 1:15-2:15
  • Think of this class as teaching practical life skills via creativeartistic.
  • Skill Development:
    • Knots can make art projects. Additionally, the importance of being able to tie a secure knot can be a matter of safety.
    • Knots teach puzzle-solving skills, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. No matter where the future leads them, all these skills will be important.
    • Knotting and stitching develop eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. Developing those elements can even help students have better handwriting.
    • This class will allow students to use their brains in new ways. Projects invite creative choices and imagination.
    • When we learn to master new skills, we strengthen our confidence in our ability to take on other new challenges. Communication and listening skills, following instructions and patience to create a quality project are other areas of development that this class will help further.
    • Learning how to sew on a missing button, fix toys, connect two ropes securely into one longer rope or create gifts will help students have a “can do” attitude in meeting the challenges of everyday life.
  • Students will learn to thread a needle, some basic and decorative stitches, how to sew on buttons. Students will even try their hand at making buttons and stamping designs into clay to create stich-able embellishments. We will also learn to tie some basic knots. A final list of projects is still being determined. (Over the summer, I'm hoping to use my 3rd-going-on-4th grade granddaughter as a test subject.) I've got my hands on some really wonderful projects and now I can hardly wait to get started in the fall!
  • Current project plans lean toward:
    • A travel Tic-Tac-Toe Game
    • Bookmarks
    • A drawstring treasure bag
    • A pumpkin pin cushion
    • A tissue holder
    • Creature keyrings
    • And so much more!
